Founded in 2015 on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad, the museum offers free general admission and presents an active Program of special exhibitions and innovative live events, all within a landmark building designed by Diller Scofidio Renfro. Welcoming around 900,000 visitors per year, The Broad is a bustling public space and serves as home to the Broad collection, one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art, which continues to grow as new artists and artworks are added. The museum is also the headquarters of The Broad Art Foundation’s worldwide lending library, which has been loaning collection works to museums around the world since 1984. An expansion of the museum will open before the 2028 summer Olympics in Los Angeles, creating even greater public access. ABOUT THE POSITION At The Broad, we strive to create a welcoming, inclusive environment for all visitors. The Visitor Experience Team Member plays a key role in delivering a positive, engaging and safe museum experience across all visitor-facing areas. As a Visitor Experience Team Member, you will create a visitor-first experience through direct interaction with the public, supporting ticketing operations, engaging with visitors in the galleries, and assisting with experiential installations. Visitor Experience staff are cross-trained to ensure flexibility and consistency throughout the museum. From helping protect the artwork to sharing knowledge about the collection and architecture, Visitor Experience Team Members are truly the face of The Broad. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Champion the museum’s mission by helping to create access to the widest possible audience. Maintain the safety of all artwork on view and enforce gallery rules of conduct. Facilitate the visitor check-in process, including issuing, selling, and scanning general admission, special exhibition, and program tickets. Consistently provide a high-level customer service, assisting visitors with wayfinding and sharing information about the artwork and museum experience. Maintain foundational knowledge of The Broad Collection, the museum building, and its place in the downtown ecosystem. Work a variety of deployments, both indoor, outdoor, offsite and throughout the museum to support efficient visitor flow. Enforce safety and security procedures and protocols. Complete required ongoing training, including but not limited to collection, special exhibition and engagement training, safety and security, and equity training. Work museum events, programs, and special installations. Find solutions to create access or suggest alternatives to booked or sold-out experiences. Other duties as assigned. Requirements: EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of two years’ experience in a visitor-facing or customer service role. Experience in hospitality, retail, attractions, ticketing operations, or cultural organizations strongly preferred. High school diploma required; relevant coursework from an accredited college or university preferred. A passion for working with people, museums, and contemporary art. Flexible and highly adaptable; able to maintain a positive attitude when priorities shift. Energized by working with the public and excited to work regular ticketing shifts at the museum’s outdoor entrance. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and as part of a diverse team. Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments and make sound decisions in the moment. Effective communication skills, with the ability to clearly present information to a wide variety of visitors. Comfortable enforcing museum policies with visitors in a respectful and professional manner. Comfortable using online ticketing systems and technology; open to learning new technologies. Strong decision-making skills are necessary. Identify and positively resolve visitor issues in the moment. Must be able to work Tuesdays – Sundays, holidays, exhibition openings, and late-night special events. Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and special events as necessary. Multilingual applicants strongly preferred. Approach work with integrity and honesty. Support and demonstrate the museum’s culture of developing a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible environment for staff, contract staff, vendors, and visitors. Demonstrate and practice cultural awareness and sensitivity in all museum programs and services. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS All employees of The Broad are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19, subject to applicable exemptions as required by law. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items. Must be able to remain stationary and stand for extended periods of time, as well as frequently move around public areas of the museum. This position supports several operational deployments including coat/bag check and ticketing located outside of the museum managing guest arrivals. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background and reference check. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed both inside the museum and outdoors. A strong candidate will be comfortable working outside in Downtown Los Angeles while standing for long periods of time in various weather conditions. This role requires both remaining stationary as well as frequently moving about the museum galleries and exterior ticketing locations to assist visitors through the museum, protect the safety of the artwork, answer questions, and provide a range of information to guests. SCHEDULE Part-time Team Members will be scheduled to work between 21-29 hours per week with hours fluctuating based on business needs. Team members must be available Tuesday-Sunday in conjunction with the current hours of operation (see below). This part-time position will regularly require working nights, evenings, holidays, and additional hours, beyond those listed below. Monday | Closed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday | 11:00 am – 5:00 pm Thursday | 11 am – 8 pm Saturday & Sunday | 10:00 am– 6:00 pm *Closed Mondays, Thanksgiving, & Christmas COMPENSATION $22.00 per hour BENEFITS Medical and Vision. Employer paid short-term disability, long-term disability, and basic life insurance. 401(k) up to 4% match, with immediate vesting.
