Engineering, Specialist at Southern California Edison (SCE) and
build a better tomorrow. In this job, you'll be part of the Digital
and Process Transformation team in IT and drive the evaluation,
development, prototyping and implementing technology solutions in
response to business needs and requirements. You'll support our
Advanced Analytics Experts by crafting and developing data
visualizations and dashboards using data sets from various sources.
You are a skilled in data and storytelling and in the use of
business intelligence (BI) tools (ex. MS Power BI), often crafting
user-friendly dashboards for business teams. You possess core data
engineering skills to design and develop data collection from
heterogeneous sources, normalizing and harmonizing data, transform
and organize as necessary for data visualization supporting
advanced analytics. We're looking for talent that is not only
accomplished in developing visualizations to tell a story and
provide insights, but an experienced data pipeline builder and data
wrangler who enjoys building data solutions from the ground up. As
a Data Visualization Engineering, Specialist, your work will help

providing input on recommendations and decisions based on financial
or operational impact, including: 1) discovery processes with SCE
collaborators to identify the business requirements; 2) modeling &
framing business scenarios that impact critical business decisions;
3) assisting with strategic recommendations on standard
methodologies; 4) contributing to the development of innovative and
effective approaches to solve analytics problems; and 5)
contributing to the ongoing tracking and monitoring of the
performance of decision systems and statistical models. You will
use business intelligence technologies (ex. MS Power BI, Tableau,
etc.) cloud data warehouse technologies such as snowflake, cloud
computing (ex. Azure, GCP, AWS, etc.), SQL, Python, and JavaScript.
You'll apply your extensive experience with relational data, big
data concepts, as well as structured, semi-structured and
unstructured data. You will support advanced analytics experts on
sophisticated use cases and will ensure optimal visualization for
insights. You will apply your understanding business requirements
and use cases, developing data requirements, performing
comprehensive data analysis, design and delivery of visualization
solutions. This includes identification of enterprise data sources,
data ingestion, normalize and harmonize data from disparate data
sources, data mining and analysis, and developing data insights
through visualization. Typical Responsibilities: Use Case
Understanding : Works with Data Scientists and SCE collaborators to
understand the business problems, goals, and objectives of the data
science use cases and in particular the associated data needed to
design & develop data engineering and visualization solutions to
provide optimal insights. Collaborates with others in IT and the
business to test and validate to ensure understanding. Prepares
reports and presentations to communicate understanding, approach
and results as required. Data Requirements and Design : Collaborate
with a data scientist and a data engineer, define the data
requirements including identifying what data is available and
relevant from both internal and external data sources; leverage new
data collection processes; Collaborate with information architects
and Data Stewards/SME's to select appropriate sources of
information; Plan data acquisition/collection, preparation,
integration, quality, transformation in preparation for exploration
and analysis. Assist data scientists with validations and analysis
of very large datasets; design, build and deploy data pipelines in
collaboration with SCE data architects. Data Preparation and
Engineering : Collaborate with a data engineer, select and prepare
data to be used for specific use cases. Perform acquisition,
integration, cleansing, labeling, transformation, management, and
manipulation of large and complex data sets to enable the
visualization of data science use cases. Develop and complete data
cleaning approaches. Detect and evaluate defects including missing
& incorrect values, formatting issues, outliers, etc, and apply
data treatments as needed. Visualization Solution Development :
Design, build and deploy data visualization solutions on large
scale data sets. Explore, mine, and experiment with data to assist
in answering critical business questions. Maintain data pipelines
in support of use cases. Visualize data to facilitate insights and
understanding. Data Engineering and Visualization Methods : Stay on
top of new and current data engineering, big data, data science and
visualization techniques. Research methods, techniques, and new
practices. Develop relationships with individuals at other
utilities and participate in relevant industry forums and groups.
Develop relationships with external data and analytics vendors and
interact with as needed. Qualifications
